London trip report
We just got home last night from 6 days in London. At the last minute we decided to change from The Lincoln House hotel to Somerset Queen's Gate Gardens apartment(formerly Chequers). The apartment was very nice and had all the amenities we could need.
Our room #107 overlooked Cromwell Rd. and you could walk out on the balcony as well.
Day 1: Westminster Abbey(3rd time)Hard Rock for lunch, a nap and then walked to a pub for drinks and dinner.
Day 2: Richmond for the day, a nice town with plenty of shops. It rained and was cold all day so we spent more time in a pub! Saw the Ceremony of the Keys that night, quite nice to be at the Tower after dark. Stopped at the grocery at Gloucester Rd. tube for food and wine to take back to the apartment for dinner.
Day 3: Went to Portobello Rd. then Highgate Cemetery for most of the day then to Covent Garden to eat at Belushi's (not good). Stopped at Lush and spent way too much.
Day 4: Took the train to Windsor, coldest ,wettest day of the week, broke two umbrellas and St.George's Chapel was closed as it was Sunday. Still enjoyed the Castle though. Not impressed with the Doll House however. Ate at yet another pub. Evening spent drinking wine bought at grocery.
Day 5: Dali Universe then inside County Hall for bowling and video games for 16yr. olds amusement. Went to Yo!Sushi for lunch, really enjoyed this which is unbelievable since I don't eat Oriental food. Then to National Gallery and stopped for a bite at Texas Embassy and then Patisserie Valerie to buy birthday cake. Ate at Black Widow pub on Gloucester Rd.
Day 6: British Museum, Monument, then went pub crawling all day from Victoria back to Kensington. Stopped at Lush again and spent more money. Sticky Fingers as well as the Black Widow, again.
Great trip! Wish we could have done more. Too tired, too drunk. Loved the apartment location!

Hi, nice to read your report and that you enjoyed the pubs of London!!! And glad you discovered LUSH as well. I love these shops and fortunately they are all over England these days. You can smell them yards away! I love their slabs of soap, and their shower gels are just incredible (especially Tramp).

I booked online at www.the-ascott.com and joined as a "member" which saved a few pounds off their published rate. The tube was Gloucester Rd.
