London to Glasgow vs. Edinburgh by train?

Just curious on peoples opinion on taking the train from London to Glasgow vs. London to Edinburgh.
Taking into account: the price, the duration, the views, the amount of stops, etc.

Thx!

Like the weather, our trains are quite unpredictable - both are good when they run on time. The part in the far north of England on the Edinburgh line is probably the best scenery.

I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. The fastest trip would be to Edingurgh, around 4 hours or so. Add one hour to Glasgow. If, however, you have lots of time, don't mind changing trains you could do this. Take the train to Leed from London's King Cross station. Then a very scenic, if somewhat long ride, to Carlisle from Leeds via Settle. You then can jump on a train to Glasgow and still have time to go from Glasgow to Edinburgh. When I take the trains I always have a rail pass and generally I am not in a hurry.

the best option is taking the train from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley.

journey time with GNER is just over 4 hours (4 or 5 stops) and goes through York & Newcastle. The other option with virgin trains to glasgow is longer and if you ask me not as realiable.

book in advance for the best prices - www.gner.co.uk

have a good trip

Is there a difference between booking with GNER and the trainline?

The one trivial difference is that GNER uses the qjump engine for its reservation service. The more substantive difference is that it is also possible that GNER would offer super bargain fares on its own site that it does not make available to thetrainline or qjump. I have seen Virgin trains do that.

I agree with Ron - book via the GNER website for the best fares
