London, the West End, and a chap named Lee Mead

What a terrific report.
I lived for a short time (maybe 3 - 3.5 months) about 20 miles from High Wycomb and spent a fair amount to time in HW/Princess Risborough/Thame (not pronounced like the river) mostly antiquing but also shows at the Swan.
Re the F&M shipping -- my box arrived right on time but one item was broken. A pretty crockery pot filled w/ marmalade. Other things like a really fragile Christmas ornament came though fine. So I called them on a Tues. morning, and after e-mailing a photo of the broken pot -- I had a new one delivered at my door . . . in California . . . on Thurs. - TWO days?! Amazing.

bettyk, I will add your request to mine. Really it would be amazing.
janisj, great customer service! As I said, I am not a shopper so have not even set foot in Harrods or any other large store in London so F&M were my first. It was so lovely and the staff were just so . . . British! Loved it.

>>I still don't really get it, but I wasn't there long enough<<
Clacton's one of the seaside resorts that lost out in all the social changes of the last forty years or so: the primary holiday business diminishing, unemployment increasing, property becoming emptier and cheaper, drawing in more and more people on social benefits, the facilities and attractions for tourists also going downmarket (if they survive at all), and ever on in a vicious circle. In the town centre it wouldn't necessarily be that obvious, but statistically it counts among the most deprived towns in the country.
