London Thames cruise

Is there a hop-on hop-off Thames cruise in London? Or perhaps something akin to the bateaux mouches in Paris? All info appreciated. Thanks!

You're welcome. I've been researching my own London trip for this summer, and am always glad to return the favor of everyone's helpfulness! It's not often I have something useful to contribute.

During our September visit, my husband and I took the Tube over to the Bank area (near Shakespeare's Globe Theatre) and walked around and across the river towards St. Pauls and back one sunny afternoon. There was a boat near there that ran further up towards the Tower and stopped on the other side, then headed back towards Westminster.

It took about 45 minutes, and had some very colorful commentary by a very funny "captain" of the boat, who pointed out various sites, and made sure we know the scandals and other jokes associated with each building we passed.

I think it cost $10-$15 USD for each of us, but it was fun to see the center of the city from the Thames without taking up a large part of the day.

Happy travels.

The Bateaux Mouches (www.bateaux-mouches.fr) don't actually offer a hop-on hop-off service. The only Paris service of that sort is Batobus (www.batobus.com).
In London, there are several possibilities. Try these:
www.catamarancruisers.co.uk
www.citycruises.com
www.crownriver.com
www.royalriverthames.co.uk

More thanks to all. Oui, Geoff, I am familiar with the bateaux mouches and the batobus and the difference between the two. Paris I can handle, but in London I am pretty naive. Appreciate all the links, y'all.

A really convenient one is the "Tate to Tate". It travels between Tate Britain, the Eye, and Tate Modern.

The Tate-to-Tate service is run by Thames Clippers (www.thamesclippers.com). It's a fast ferry service rather than a sightseeing trip with a commentary, but is very useful because it's the old boat service to the Tate Britain.

If you haven't been to London for awhile... we hopped on one of the tour buses that stop at various highlights around town.... along with that ticket came a trip on the Thames (within the next 24 hours.) We found it a good way to get reoriented to the city. Of course, it was a plus that the weather the day we took the cruise was absolutely beautiful.
