I think i once knew what Seven Dials, in northern London area around Islington i believe, was but i forgot. It's a famous landmark i know for locals but refresh me - what is it? Clock faces. thanx in advance.

It's a bit north of Covent Garden - I stayed in a hotel nearby a couple of years ago. See link below for more info:

Mara- thanx - so it's seven roads coming together in a circle it seems - not clocks. I'll look on my detailed London map.

It's actually IN Covent Garden, not north of it, unless you meant north of Covent Garden Market -- then, yes, it sort of is.

It's also part of the theatre district of the West End. The Radisson Edwardian Mountbatten is right there, and the Covent Garden Hotel and the delightful restaurant Mon Plasir are very close.

Patrick has it right - seven dials is just off of Shaftsbury Ave. Sort of mid way between Long acre st and Charing Cross rd.

Smack dab in the middle of the covent garden/soho theatres and a couple of blocks from both Leicester Sq and Covent Garden tube stations.

And a block to Belgo Centraal, and the same to Neal's Yard Dairy (oh what a cheese shop!), and a block to the Donmar Theatre. And a block to The Ivy. Gee, now that I think of it, it really IS in the middle of everything.
