London Restaurants

Found my Dec. issue of Bon Appetit when I got home from work, and it has a feature on London restaurants. It says,"The fashion for mega-eateries and theatrical design that was predominate over the past decade is finished. New restaurants tend to be smaller and focus more on the customer."

It lists 9 restaurants and reviews them. Good article for those taking advantage of the recent great fares to London!

They are: Tom Aikens,(near Chelsea), Benares (Mayfair), Hakkasan (Bloomsbury), Fino,(near Hakkasan), Racine (Knightsbridge), Osia (Haymarket), Nahm((Belgravia), Thyme(Clapham), and finally, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, "hottest of all" (Hoxton).

You could try www.bonappetit.com; if you can't find it there, just pop into a library (or bookstore) and turn to p.136!

I don't think it is available on line; if you want any addresses or phone numbers, just let me know. For the reviews, etc., you'll have to get a copy of the 'zine, though!

I've been to osia twice. It's great food but a bit on the pricy side. There's a very small bar hidden in the back that's great too. Good for pre and post theatre dining.

All trendy suggestions, I can't stick Jamie Oliver's style of cooking and his "restaurant". The prices are far too high for rather mediocre food, which is served without finesse. For that money, Gordon Ramsay's eateries are much better value, more comfortable, and in a much more upmarket area. As for Fino, also too trendy.

I'm not against trendy at all, I'm only against it when Trendy charge Haute Couture prices.

I have had only 1 request from my "better half" for this forthcoming holiday and that is he wants to enjoy a really good roast beef and yorkshire pud whilst we are in London, so..........I got onto the net and got into the RULES website. What a place!
That beautiful domed glass ceiling looks like something out of a movie.
The menu is not extentsive but very adaquate in all british food respects and the prices look pretty good too. Has anyone been there recently or in the past that can pass a fair comment?
It is very near Covent Garden.

Yes, Rules is really something to see-a real institution and the food was good. My husband had game, I forget what. We went for the pre-theatre set price dinner so it wasn't too bad a price.
