ncounty--Nice to hear how it all went We had a steal of a rate at that Travelodge last summer, but it was the first of August on a Monday, so got it for 32GBP, lol. We stayed at the Reine Mathilde on our Bayeux portion of that trip and had one dinner there and it was very mediocre. Service was very good though, so that was nice. BTW, we have been to Bayeux several times and by far our best meal was at La Fringale. I was so bummed that we didn't get to eat there last year, but DD's friend was on a tight student budget and I had already treated for other meals, so didn't push for La Fringale. I should have, lol. Glad the towel charge got dropped.

We love staying in the area between Bastille and Republique. It was where we stayed when we made our first trip to Paris in 1998, and we stayed there again in 2010. There are now some wonderful restaurants in the area, too.

There is a restaurant right across the street from our apartment called Chez Paul that had great reviews, uhoh. Almost all the other guests had eaten there and written about it favorably. If I had had more time, I would have definitely had a meal there.
We ate at Le Monde Grillard one block away and the fondue there was fantastic and very well priced. We regretted not trying one of their kabob dishes; one came out after we had ordered and it looked fantastic. It is on Rue de Lappe.
