London in April....

Hi all,

Okay, I have been able to get a great rate on millennium baileys for 8 days in april! whewww! I picked this or the gloucester because of the location. I am a happy camper on my hotel and airfare.

now that I know the area I will be staying, I would like to get some recommendations from people about restuarants in that area. I remember someone saying that right across the road from the hotels (gloucester) there was a place you could have breakfast for about 3 pds? does anyone remember the name of that restuarant? also need evening recommendations.

we are on a moderate budget. we usually have no problem with breakfast or lunch because it is usually on the go. dinner is always a challenge to keep within our budget and still have a nice meal.

recommendations anyone?

There is a great Italian restaurant about 3 blocks down Gloucester, once you cross Cromwell. I don't remember the name of it but it's on the right and it's right on the corner (past Partridges market). It was very reasonable as well.

erinb

We were in London two weeks ago and were introduced to these two places. I'd return to either in a heartbeat.

Strada. Excellent pastas, wonderful pizza from a woodfired oven. Very smart, casual atmosphere. Extremely reasonable prices. Menus are on line at strada.co.uk. We were taken to one in Holburn but I believe there's one near Earls Court.

We were also taken to a place called Nandos which specializes in Portuguese grilled chicken (marinaded in something wonderful and spicy called peri peri). It's a little more casual than Strada but the food was excellent and not at all pricey. We ate at one in SoHo and in Earls Court. Menu and locations at nandos.co.uk.

Have a great trip!
second Nandos - why this place is not a much bigger chain, I do not know - it is so superior to KFC and such like. There is a super cheap and pretty good pizza place about 50 metres from Gloucester Rd tube - turn right as you come out (on to smaller road, not Cromwell Rd). Total cheap decor etc but used by locals as best value around.

Two good restaurants for dinner across the street from Bailey's. 1) Black and Blue - nice atmosphere, friendly service, reasonable prices on excellent fish and chicken dishes. 2) La Sala Romano - turn right down Gloucester Road, left at first corner, and up the stairs above Dino's pizza. Excellent Italian at moderate prices, good reasonably priced wines.
