Indian food in London

Do you have any favorite Indian restaurants in London? Not fancy, just delicious?

Lehore Kebab House near Whitechapel gets good reviews, and was a great 11PM meal for me last time in London, but since its a little more difficult to get to/from if you're staying WestEnd,, I have come to enjoy the Punjab in Covent Garden.

They have a website, and advertise themselves as the "oldest" Pakastani restaurant in London....I certainly can't confirm or deny their claim, but did enjoy several meals there recently.
Have a great trip and Best wishes! Dave

We just returned from Sunday lunch buffet at Cafe Naz on Brick Lane. This street in East London, near Aldgate or Aldgate East tube is a street filled with Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi restuarants and shops. This was our second trip to Cafe Naz --and once again we found every single dish wonderful. The best lamb curry I've ever had. Cost for the buffet is 7.95 and a real bargain for the place. There are also dozens of cheaper local places along the street. Cafe Naz is probably the most upscale of them all in the area.

We really enjoyed Lal Qila on Tottenham Court Rd. On the expensive side, but excellent food and service and pleasant surroundings.

There is a good Indian curry restaurant on Tavistock Place (not far from Russell Sq. tube) called Hot Chili. Does lunch (starter, main, choice of rice or nan bread) for 4.50.

If you have the time check out the Southhall area - It's like a "little India" - nothing fancy but authentic!

Where are you staying and do you mind travelling for this curry?

I like a few of my locals (in North Finchley) but I dont think they are worth a trip out of Central or South London - there are no doubt equivalents nearer to your hotel.

I had a great meal at Sarkhels in Southfields though - that would be worth travelling out of central london for.

Masala Zone is a good bet. I think it is from the same people that brought us Wagamama and Busaba Eathai.
