London Hotel
Message: I am thinking about changing my reservation and staying at the Georgian and Bower House Hotel. Has anyone stayed here recently? Can anyone give me any feedback on this hotel?
Thanks
PS...yes, I know this is posted twice. The first time I accidentally posted it on the U.S. board.

Well - you don't say where you were originally booked, so don't know what area it was in.
I have not stayed at the Geo./Bower House but I can comment on its location. it is in St Georges drive which is close to Victoria station so it is VERY convenient for any sort of transport. It is also a short walk to the river and Tate Britain. And from the Tate you can catch the great Tate-to-Tate river taxi that goes to the Eye and on to Tate Modern.

Hi Janis and thanks for your reply. I am currently booked at the booked the Olympic House Hotel, just north of Hyde park. The Olympic had negative reviews on tripadvisor.com, and that is what is making me want to change.

The Olympic House is in Sussex Gardens. it isn't a terrible location -- between Paddington Station and Lancaster Gate/Hyde Park. It would be nice to walk to the park in the morning - but Victoria is more convenient to more places. Other things being equal (price, room facilities, etc), I'd personally choose Victoria over Bayswater/Paddington.

FWIW, I much prefer the Bayswater neighbourhood to Victoria, as a place to stay. The proximity to Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is the major plus; the Queensway, a lively commercial street is another. Some really nice pubs, too. The area around Victoria station leaves me cold.
Having said that, there are some pretty nasty hotels on Sussex Gardens, intermingled with some good ones. I would want some positive views before staying in one again. Be wary if you are travelling alone; some of the single rooms are indeed converted closets.
