Also used LondonConnection and was quite pleased. The one bedroom where we stayed may not work for you as accessing the bathroom requires going through the bedroom but it was quite satisfactory and the service was great. Appreciated being able to pay in US dollars via credit card through the US office. Driver (additional cost but worth it) was terrific, local agent good, too.

Was very unsatisfied by London Connection in 2006. While showing the apartment, greeter saw that washing machine was not working and had a moldy kitchen towel in it. She promised to send someone to fix it.
I told her we were traveling extensively and had booked this apartment specifically to be able to do our wash for 4 people, so she understood that a functioning washer was important to us. No one came. I called several times, but they were unable to send someone to fix it the entire week we were there.
Afterwards, I received a customer survey by email. I replied, detailing our problem. They promised to look into it. I never heard anything back from them.

Farnum & Christ is a great agency. Haven't used Holiday Lettings but there have been several good reports about them posted on here.
The site gtg linked is really useful for longer term rentals. There are a very small % that will rent for 2 - 4 weeks, a tiny fraction for 1 week, and some of those are quite far out. 95+% of the listings are for 3 months to 1 year minimum term.
Your €140 = equals about £115 or £800-ish a week. Here is a link to flats at St Katharine's Marina next to the Tower of LOndon. You can probably find something more central, but at least check it out. You get a bit more for your ££, it is close to Tower Hill tube station, and next to a pier for trips up and down river. They aren't posh but very nice, clean and fully equipped. There are shops, a super market,and restaurants/pubs w/i the marina complex.
You get more space at the cost of a bit longer commute to some of the major sites -- but still w/i zone 1. Pros and cons . . . .

janisj, it's true that most of the sabbatical home places aim for longer terms but sometimes there are 'spaces' in-between the long terms. Friends of mine recently rented an apartment in Bloomsbury for a week in just that circumstance. I believe it doesn't hurt to ask, especially in these days of quick email correspondence. If you see a place you like and it's the right price and location, a short email to the owner asking if by any chance it's free for a short let from this date to that date is a small investment of time. You're right that most places will be booked for longer terms but hey, my friends got lucky. So might the OP.

Oh, and I meant to say that the Farnum-Christ apartments look beautiful. I believe Neo-Patrick regularly stays at one of them. I wish I could afford one for this stay but it's too long a term. Maybe next time for a short visit, though.
