London Cheapish Hotels
Hi everyone. I am planning a trip to London for about 5 nights in mid-September. I've just started looking into hotels and would love some suggestions. I would rather not spend a ton of money since I'm traveling solo and the exchage rate is rather bad. Obviously something under $100 US (or under) in a good central neighborhood would be ideal. Maybe wishful thinking but would love to hear from folks who have recently been.
Thanks so much!

$100 USD or under ?? Oh, you're in for some sticker shock. At that price point, a "cheapish hotel" is called a hostel or dormitory. Can check out Euro Cheapo, but even their rates tend towards the plus-$100 rate ..... http://www.eurocheapo.com/london/
As already suggested, research how to bid thru Priceline.

Also, forgot to include one more website >>>

If you've never used Priceline, it's best to review this as well as the other site I mentioned to better understand the bidding process and how to get best value. Clearly, before you do that, you'll want to identify which areas of London you wish to stay in.

I have enjoyed the Crescent Hotel in Cartwright Gardens, Bloomsbury, near the British Museum and Russell Square Tube Station, an easy walk to the British Library. Rooms are small and the bathroom is shared, but it is clean, has a friendly staff, and a good English breakfast. I paid about 50 pounds with a small discount because I stayed three nights. Even has tennis courts available.

Hi jpduxboy,
I've stayed at the Darlington Hyde Park
http://www.darlingtonhotel.com/
and Base2Stay in Kensington
http://www.base2stay.com/
Both were wonderful and close to the tube, in lively neighborhoods. The Darlington was much nicer than it looks on its site.
Booking early might get you close to $100 USD/night.
CHeck tripadvisor.com, too, with their hotel search function that lets you search for rooms under a certain price point.
Good luck!

I try and do cheap, when I can, but do some research if you can. I recently cancelled a cheap hotel but only after I read the reviews on TripAdvisor. The chains are usually cheap and exceptionally clean try Travellodge or Accorhotel etc - they are good value and many are located in the centre.

Priceline. Even with the uncertainty about the specific hotel, it is the best choice, IMO. You will get a higher standard hotel for what you would pay for a budget place. I mean, a shared bath? I would gladly take on the uncertainty of Priceline to avoid that.

Travelodge - especially the one at Waterloo which is brand new and quite nice. Prices vary greatly depending on day of week, exact dates but sometimes is under $100.
Comfort Inn Buckingham Palace Road - Prices also vary greatly depending on dates.
I've stayed at both of them within the past year, both are good locations and clean, nice enough.
I have not stayed at EAsyHotel but I booked my husband, brother in law and daughter in there last month and they were pleasantly surprised. They were at the Earls Court one. We sprung for the extra for rooms with windows. New, clean, good location, decent bathrooms - but no furniture other than the beds. But it's cheap.
