London Apartment Rentals

Going to London for 10 days in March or April. Considering an apartment instead of hotel. Doing www search turned up dozens of sites with hundreds of rentals. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences?
Thanks
Jay

I have used Farnum and Christ for a number of years. It is a small firm in the US that represents privately owned flats in London. There are no real cheapies, but all are very nice. I pay about $200 a night for a week stay in a large flat right in the heart of Covent Garden on a quiet cobblestone street. It has a very large "great room" with lots of windows and wood blinds. A smallish bedroom and two baths -- one very large one with tub and hand held shower, and another small bath with a walk-in glass doored shower. There is a small but complete kitchen with washer/dryer combination. It is wonderfully decorated and is complete with tons of art books, and even spices and miscellaneous things in the kitchen.
I like this flat because of its location in the theatre district, but most of their other flats are in Kensington or Sloane Square. You can check out their minimal website at www.farnum-christ.com or call them at 1-800-366-2048. They like to talk with you so they can suggest the best flat for your needs. They require a deposit to cover phone and incidentals, but are very quick to return the balance after you stay there. No hidden fees or extras, and they are a joy to deal with.
If you are looking for a larger apartment hotel situation or daily maid service, etc, then there's are not for you. But if you like feeling more like you are in a private apartment, I think you will be very happy.
Tell Lisa or Ann that Patrick in Naples said to call -- I chat with them all the time and help provide them with current details for their "suggestions" list they provide with each rental.
We have rented apts twice, latest in Oct 2001, via www.barclay.com, very satisfactorily. They are brokers for a number of apts of all sizes and prices in all areas. We have stayed at Roland House and at Queensgate/Manson Place which they list as Apts at South Kensington. Pd less than $100 per night on a studio few yrs ago and splurged on 1BR $210 night incl tax and were upgraded to 2BR.
We like the South Kensington or Goucester Rd area but all areas are available.

Six of us, a family group, stayed in a three-bedroom flat on Queens Gate Gardens booked through londonconnections.com. It was very nice, and they picked us up and took us back to the airport.

I used homefromhome.com - wonderful 1 bedroom apartment - even nicer than the web shots they showed. Very accomadating, and much cheaper/nicer than staying in a hotel (@125/night_ the Gloucester/S. Kensington area is perfect, close to the park and near the museums.

This past June I stayed in an apartment through priceapts.co.uk by the advise of a friend. We stayed in the two bedroom on Balcombe Street. I felt the price was reasonable and we were next to two tube stops.

we stayed at the Citadines in South Kensington. Family of 4 in a 1Br appartment (foldout sofabed for the Kids) Found that close to most things and the area was safe. Booked thru out travel agent. Expensive, but so is everything with the current Aus $ exchange rates.

I second london4rent. Has both a 1-800 number and web site. Joseph 2 the 800 number was exceedingly helpful in arranging a 3-bedroom rental at The Mansions for us in March.
