London: Advice and info offered
Hi,

I am happy to try and answer any questions people may have on London. I live in the UK, used to visit London and still visit family and friends there often. I have also compiled a guide to the best of London on my homepage at http://londonguide.cjb.net which anybody planning a trip to London may find useful.

Best wishes,

Mark.

Mark,
I'm trying to lighten my pack for my trip to London. One suggestion I have received is to wear only hiking boots (I am hiking Hadrian's Wall, Lakes, and Dales) and leave other shoes at home. I will be spending 4 days in London, including the Chelsea Flower show. Could I really get away with purple, lumberjack hiking boots in London, at events like CFS?

No problem - You will blend in with the flowers. London is very tolerant of eccentricity so you will probably be ignored at most places. However some hotels and pubs, restaurants etc have a dress code - usually only the posh or trendy ones though! Who knows, you could start a new trend!

Mark.

Mark---- Your website is tops! In all honesty, I wasn't crazy about London the first time I visited (I visit NYC often to enjoy similar things London has to offer...). Your webpage truly highlights the unique things about London and makes me think about another try/visit...

Great job!

P.S. The Leeds Castle picture is so beautiful....!!!!

Mark:
Have been having a hard time finding a hotel for less than $175.00 or so per night in London in a central location! Can you help? I have looked up a few cute bed and breakfasts, but later found that they were not centrally located to everything. My Mom and I are planning a trip November 21 til 27 and it will be our first trip to London. I have heard about the Swiss Hotel, but have no idea what street it is on or where it is located. Do you have any suggestions for us?? Thank you in advance for anything you can tell us. All hotel info greatly appreciated.
Michele

The Regents Park Marriott hotel is in fact at Swiss Cotage, miles from Regents arkl, and may be whjat you're thinking of. Otherwise, he Swiss Cottage Hotel is at 4 Adamson Road, NW3. It has fax number 0044 171 483 4588, and may have a web site, so you could ask about prices.

To my mind the fairly cheap, central, hotel is the Royal Adelphi Hotel on Villiers Street, just by Charing Cross Station. They have a web site. I've been to see a room: it looked fine to me. A couple of months ago a single room cost 60 pounds, or 100 US dollars. You should ask for a high room, a bsack room, or any other room that's away from traffic noise. Even o, it's not much below the 175 a night that bothrs you.

People on various fora write well of the Travellers Inn in County Hall near Waterloo, over Westminster Bridge from Parliamenht. I've not visited: they have a web page.

Please write further, after you read the web pages, if I can help further.

Ben Haines, London

Hi Michele,

For good London hotels in the price range you mention, try the London Hotel Guide at: http://hotelguide.cjb.net

This is a list of recommended London hotels with short reviews and decriptions, where you can also send in comments and reviews of London hotels where you have stayed. Perhaps something there will be of use? (The site also has discounted online booking, which can work out a lot cheaper).

The suggestion of the Travellers Inn at County Hall is also a good one - they offer a central location for about 60 pounds a night (per double room). I would be interested to hear any more reports on this hotel too.
