I just tried the search function to see how it works on this "new" Fodors and it does work fine. Type in "Inexpensive London hotels in the box and highlight United Kingdom and you will get a few hundred posts on this topic. You should find some suggestions there.

I have stayed at the Bayswater Inn on Princes Square, it was o.k., a little travel worn but got a breakfast of sorts which helps. This fall stayed a few blocks away at the Vancouver suites and loved it, had a tiny kitchenette, beds were wonderful, showers wonderful and so clean. However for a couple it was 80 pounds, close to $155 a nite. However for a week, it worked out fine. Lots of places in that area. The rooms are often not quite as nice as the lobbies. Have a good one. halfpint

I always recommend Balmoral House Hotel on sussex gardens near Paddington rail and tube. Clean, comfortable and safe. Nice people, good full english breakfast. 40 gbp for a single. www.balmoralhousehotel.co.uk
Looks just like the web pictures.

Have a good trip.

For what is worth, I stayed at the Victoria Inn located 15 minutes walk to the Victoria Station and 5 minutes to the Pimlico metro station. It was 65 pounds for a double/breakfast included. Safe neighborhood, nice staff, very clean, family-friendly. Let me know if you need more details.
