LONDON

Do not waste your money on the London Pass. It claims to give you entrance to places that are closed or are already free. They claim there are no lines or waits.. total lie.
DO however buy an unlimited 1,2, etc day underground pass. That is totally worth it if you are planning to do alot of sightseeing.

I agree that the London Pass is not a good deal for most people, but I have not seen it advertise admission to places that are "closed or free."

It does provide free admission to special exhibits that the free museums charge for; last year, we used ours to attend the Cleopatra exhibit at the British Museum which otherwise would have cost 9 pounds even though the museum itself is free. The only thing that's closed is Buckingham Palace, which is only open in Aug and Sept. Did you find something else on the Pass that was closed?

In my experience, Pass holders can go to the front of the line and use their Pass at a special checkpoint that uses a card reader; we did this at the zoo and one or two other places.

FYI, the only 2-day underground/bus passes are the weekend passes.

Tower of London was another place where Pass holders could just march past the lines of people waiting.

Maybe things have changed (since March)or we just had a bad experience, but we went to places (ie: London Dungeon) and were turned away because of the long lines.
It also stated the you had admittance to Westminster Abbey, but the truth was you had admittance to a seperate chapel.. as a tourist how would you know that it was separate until you got there? I no longer have the booklet but there were places it claimed to have entrance to that were free (like all of the museums).
Of course there were places you could get into, but I felt overall it was a total waste of money.

I just felt it was a total bait and switch.

As for the Visitors Pass (underground pass) in March they offered them for unlimited, weekday or weekend one day or more. We were only in London during the week(days) and we got a 2 day pass.

Ah, well, I never tried to use my London Pass at the London Dungeon.

I do still have my booklet, from last summer, which says "Guide 2001/2002" and it says none of the things you assert about Westminster Abbey or free places. Perhaps you misread it, or got a new edition that has typos?

The regular tube passes are also good for unlimited all day use and cost less than the Visitors Travelcard.

the London Pass gets one into the Chapter House (not a "seperate chapel") and the Pyx chamber. These have separate VERY SMALL admission charges.

They are both very interesting - the Chapter house has one of the best preserved medieval floors in the world. But they are certainly not a reason to buy the London Pass - -
