I am sadden to see that you have not withdrawn or address the anti-Semitic comment you have made or quoted. Also the morality of treading in the footsteps of tragedy as well as admiring the sites where prostitutes were murdered seem to excite you . I don't know how accurate the information given on these tours are but knowing how easily you believe tour guides or scammers make me want to caution you to check the facts. Remember the tallest Buddha statue in the world and the tourist promotion week in your Bangkok report?
If your comment is inflammatory to a certain group of people or in fact to any people then IMO you should apologise or withdraw them.
Apart from that keep up the entertaining reports and look forward to more. By the way where is your next destination going to be?

copinesq,
I respect your comments and opinions and I am glad you feel free to express them. I hope you will offer me the same courtesy.
I have nothing to withdraw as you are asking for the facts of history to be rewritten or ignored. IMO, that is not genuine.
If you watched the video and read my posting you would note that numerous suspects were named and even the tour guide was not 100% sure in all of his conclusions.
Mr K was named as a prime suspect by the lead investigator of the case although there are numerous other theories out there. Following your logic, apologies can be made for all of them. As I have stated and others have conclude:
"Even today suspicion remains as to the true identity of “Jack The Ripper”."
It seems as if you want to shoot the messenger. Furthermore, I think of you more highly than someone who seems to know the intentions of the heart. I am insulted by the following:
"Also the morality of treading in the footsteps of tragedy as well as admiring the sites where prostitutes were murdered seem to excite you."
How can you draw such a conclusion from someone taking a walking tour of a tragic part of London history? Do you think of the kids, teenagers and others that take the same tour that way?
Would you say the same of those that visit sites were thousands or even millions were tortured or gased to death? I would hope not.
Speaking of Bangkok..
Remember in one post "Hanuman" said there was free soup at temples and in another he said there wasn't.
Or do you remember that I did not buy any gems but just got a tour of some very cool temples for 20 baht?
Or do you remember that I did not get robbed or beaten to death by a tuk tuk driver?
Or do you remember that I got a personal tour of a coconut farm?
Or do you remember that I ate a grasshopper and did not die?
Or do you remember that I enjoyed my stay at Moonite Hotel and had a great breakfast?
Or do you remember that I ate fresh fruits from a street vendor and did not die?
Focus on the positive things in life and you will find traveling and living a lot more fun

Actually DMB if you were to go on a tour for pleasure or for fun to a concentration camp then that is also very wrong IMO. I would think that most if not all the visitors to such historical sites go there to pay their respects to those that died there. I have no idea who the "ripper" was but is it necessary for you to brand the accused as a "Jew" or even quote the tour guide that he was a "Jew"? What has religion got to do with being an accused murderer?
Anyways I don't want to "detract" you from your reports. What's the next destination for the "rock star"?

>>Kate - I don't think that there was a terribly effective attempt to cover it up - locals all knew about the murders at the time and people have been discussing it ever since!
i think that the reason for a "cover up" if such there was, was to prevent panic at the thought that a serial killer was on the loose.<<
Annhig, I didn't mean they covered up the murders, but rather literally covered up/painted over the graffiti.

An interesting point of view about tours. I wonder how many others share your same point of view.
I am sure I am mistaken but it is my understanding that the term "Jew" is not always made in reference to someone's religion but can also be made in reference to someone's ancestry.
Israelites were the residents of the Kingdom of Judah, and the term "Yehudi" or "Jew" came to refer to all the Israelites, regardless of their tribal ancestry.
I grant you this reference as with everything I post can be wrong and full of lies. However, it may explain why the suspect was described the way he was by the lead investigator of the case.
The "detract" cat was let out of the bag a long time ago and it is something I find very entertaining. So you and others can "detract" all day long. Detractors and critics have never changed my travel experiences and never will.

_______
And now a talmudic scholar as well. A Jew is someone born of a Jewish mother or someone who went through the strenuous process of conversion. It is not a singular race or ethnic group or a people who share a common ancestry. That is why Jews are of many colors, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.
Do you actually want to bring in self-serving Biblical references to defend your anti-semitism?
Do you actual think the illiterate graffito in Whitechapel was written from a historical perspective?
I preferred your mundane travel photos and small insights in London.

In all the years I have been on Fodor's, this will only be the second time that I have requested a thread be deleted due to content. I do alert them to ads often.
I usually like for others to know who are the bigots, but one can readily see, that this poster thinks he is not and even tries to defend himself through self-serving non-sense.

Aduchamp1,
Thanks for being "The Guardian" and "Champion" of what is posted on Fodors.
I appreciate your input although I disagree with your views and accusations. However, I will follow up on your pizza recommendations next time I am in NYC and maybe we'll find something to agree upon

Fascinating thread with the usual suspects spewing forth their hatred and their name-calling.
According to this wikipedia article there were at least four Polish Jews who were suspected of being Jack the Ripper (I counted four, there may have been more, but I got caught up in reading the sordid and criminal backgrounds of some of the suspects).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_the_Ripper_suspects
How come there are no protests and name-calling about so many Poles becoming suspects?
Generally speaking, I usually like suexxyy and Clifton's posts and, on this particular thread, a few others have offered some down-to-earth comments and opinions.
Otherwise, it's the usual awfulness of reading the garbage spewed forth by some practised haters - and no, I don't visit Holocaust museums nor WWII torture/victim museums in Asia nor killing fields - and no, I'm not one to go on a Jack the Ripper tour either. OTOH, I have visited a few cemeteries, such as the one that the Headless Horseman supposedly favored.
And no, I haven't read the OP's original thread which has turned this thread into the usual Fodors dog fight and name-calling. Some posters have certainly turned Fodors from the fun place to be into a place as dreary as those dreary places the OP mentioned.

DMBTraveler: I just realized my post ended up on the wrong thread and have reposted to the other thread, the one in the Lounge.
DMB: it's been a mystery to me why some posters are allowed to spew their hatred around while others can't even say "WT$" without getting banned. I think of the hate-spewers as being like moles, never able to see the light.

easytraveler,
Hopefully, their numbers will decrease and this forum will be what it should be, just a place to post travel experiences.
A place where we can read about others travel experiences and not make:
"A mountain out of a molehill"
