LONDON 2 DAYS - HELP ME!
Seasoned travellers, tell us what to see in London. We have only two days! Don't want to waste a moment. Sure, many fodorites have posted lots, but we need some help sorting thought all the ideas. Please give us a quick, dirty list - you fav 5 or so. Many thanks. And a hotel, please, close to everything, in a central area for under $300 a night.

Try the Cumberland up by Marble Arch. Nice spot, walk to everything but quiet as well. When you get there, take the traditional red bus tour, will fire you around the city. AS you go through, make notes of what to see and you'll have an idea of the locations. London is very easy to navigate by tube...if you really want to take in the English culture, go to a soccer match.

Well, first, look at Fodor's site on London and click on "Best in 3 days itinerary". It's one day more than you have, but it hits the highlights.

My thoughts:
Day 1:
Start at Westminster Abbey, walk over to Buckingham Palace (by 11 or so if you want to see Changing of the Guard at 11:30), then walk up The Mall to see Trafalgar Square and 10 Downing St (Big Ben is near here). If you like art, hit the British Museum (it is open until 8pm some nights).

Day 2:
St. Paul's Cathedral, Globe Theathre, Tower of London (great free tours), and the Tower Bridge.

The things I picked for each day are pretty near each other, to cut down travel time between stops.

Other good options, depending on what you like: Covent Garden - shops, street performers, etc; Harrod's; or the Kensington Palace, where Diana lived.

A lot of people suggest the bus tours where you can see all the highlights and jump on and off the bus whenever you want. Probably a good option for you. Happy travels!

Try Priceline for a hotel in Central London. We got the 4* Copthorne Tara in Kensington for $75 per night in July. You can narrow it down by area so you know approx. where you are staying. Check out www.biddingfortravel.com before you bid to see what hotels come up in what areas.

"K's" recommendation is great. You can't miss the Tower of London. The 1st day walk is perfect, it packs a lot in one punch. You might also want to make a reservation for a ride on the London Eye (you'll see a lot). I'd personally skip the Globe. The British Museum is a must. Their Egyptian, Greek and Roman exhibits are spectacular. As for hotels, look at www.londontown.com, it will give you great deals on hotels, and will show where each is located. My favorite place is Twenty Nevern Square in Earl's Court, but it is not close to everything. If your evenings are open I highly recommend the Jack the Ripper walk with Ronald (London Walks.) Have a great time.
