Loire or Durdogne

AFter a few days up to a week, in the Alsace, which do posters recommend. The Loire V, or the Durdogne? We are considering a week in either. Either way we will probably be spending it in a villa. Many thanks Denise
Most definitely - Dordogne.
BUT! Only between the beginning of April and the end of October. Everything is closed in the winter.
Ada

Another vote for the Dordogne. The scenery is wonderful and lots of small towns to visit. You mention staying in a villa - have you considered a chateau? I have tried several and they are wonderful. I have traveled the area in March and December and although accomodations can be limited, some nice places are still open and no crowds.

Dordogne Valley is less touristy (except for Sarlat or the like) than the Loire; there are walled villages, fortified churches, caves, chateaux, you name it - also very inexpensive compared to other parts of France (seems to be a place for French and English families to vacation). There are outdoor sports as well (horseback riding, kayaking, fishing, etc). You can rent literally mansions for a fraction of the cost of hotel rooms in Paris (some come with butler and housekeeper/cook - ooooh now that's luxury, baby).
