I plan to drive from Paris to Loire late afternoon (around 6pm) and spend 2 nights there. Then drive to Mont St. Michel.

I would like to know the convenient area(s) to stay in Loire and time required to drive from Loire to Mont St. Michel.

You need to provide more info. there are tons of places to stay in the Loire - and where you stay depends in large part on what you want to do/see.

Without that info we're all working blind.

It would be much easier, and more accurate, if one knew your proposed starting point for the drive from the Loire. Once that is determined it is a somewhat simple matter to use www.viamichelin.com or www.mappy.com to get both directions and approximate driving times.

There are many "convenient areas" in the Loire and assuming you are going there to see some of the chateaux I would suggest you consider Blois, Amboise, or Tours, to begin with.

Perhaps the OP does not realize that "Loire" is actually the Loire Valley, a large region with any number of towns, cities, and villages from which to choose. Where to stay depends on what the sightseeing plans are, but I would imagine that being as close as possible to Normandy/Brittany would be a good idea so as to minimize driving time on the day of visiting Mont St-Michel. Angers and Tours might be the most suitable.

On my first trip to France we travelled from Paris to the Loire Valley and then to Normandy and Brittany, including Mont St Michel. We started the trip when we picked up the car at Orly Airport, avoiding driving in Paris, which I recommend. We stayed at Blois for 2 nights then Angers for 2 nights but if I went again I would try to stay at Amboise, as it is such a pretty town. You can see all of the Loire in escursions from Amboise. We started at about 10am from Angers and spent all day driving to our cottage in rural Normandy, about 1 1/2 hours from Mont St Michel. However, we stopped on the way for breaks and to look around, and were not rushing to get there. We also avoided the major highways and stuck to the Department roads (D roads on Michelin maps). ALthough slower, they are more scenic and definitely have less aggressive drivers than the A Roads (tollways) and the N Roads (National I think).
