Lodging in Rovinj and Dubrovnik

Hi. I would love some ideas for nice places to stay in Rovinj and Dubrovnik with my husband.

In Rovinj we'd prefer a sea-view room (balcony would be great!) walking distance to the Old Town. (Porta Antica has no sea-view rooms left for when we'll be there.)

In Dubrovnik we'd love something with some local charm, again walking distance to the Old Town.

We'd like to spend 75 to 100 euros a night as a target. Thanks!!

My girlfriend and I will also be spending four nights (the 13th to the 17th)in Dubrovnik in June. We booked Room Karla based on recommendations from others posting on this site. This will be our first stay there so we cannot personally recommend it but at 55 euro a night it would meet your price range. Also, it is just outside the Pile Gate. Here is the website...

The service with which we booked the room appears to be small and local. We too are hoping it has local charm. The last time we were in Dubrovnik...October 2005...we just showed up at the port and negotiated a room in the middle of the old town. It was cheap, $42/night, and well located but lacked charm. Best of luck and have a great trip.

You've booked with Dubrovnik apartment source, you will not be disappointed with your room. Before I moved to Dubrovnik permanently, I used this service and found Michelle and Andrew to be professional and knowledgeable in the properties they represent. I found they personally inspect each site and their detailed descriptions are accurate.
The charm of room Karla will be the view.

I stayed in Room Karla last October. There is no actual view from the room, but the view from the room terrace above is absolutely stunning. Just by the Minceta Tower, you can see all across Dubrovnik. You can sit up there with your early morning coffee and watch the sun come up, and then in the evening you get the same fantastic sunset that you get from the Buza Bar.

The room itself is quite dark as there are shutter over the small windows but it is comfortable enough otherwise, and the bathroom backs onto the courtyard. You will still need electric light in there. I took a handmirror, and put on my face in the morning up on the terrace!

It is quite a trudge up something like 200 steps UP from the Pile Gate, but I found the quickest and easiest way is to leave and enter the city through the Buza Gate, on the top wall. There are two shortish flights of steps from the gate to the Stradun, and the rest of the walk between the Buza Gate and the apartment is a not-particularly steep hill.

You can see the roof terrace from all around the walls - it is fun to look back across at it - and it's easy to see because it is by the Minceta Tower and a cute little chapel. Another great view is from up above on Mt Srd.

Have a wonderful time.

We stayed at the Apartment Divona through this site:

http://www.dubrovnik-amoret.com/dubr...partments.html

We really liked it there, right in the Old Town, above a restaurant.

We just stayed at Porta Antica in Rovinj, it's a pity they are full for your stay. The Hotel Adriatic would have some good seaview rooms, and is very central in Rovinj.

There is a huge (modern and ugly) hotel across the water from Rovinj, I think it was the Hotel Park. They would have seaview rooms and also a view of Rovinj. It's only 5 mins walk around to the centre of Rovinj and there are cafes all the way round the waterfront.

If you would like to stay in the Old Towns, we recently stayed in Dubrovnik at Karmendu Apartments and in Rovinj at Apartment Felix. Both were very nice and should fit within your budget. Karmendu has a ground floor apt. that we originally booked, however, we switched to an apartment with a harbor view because we needed a place other than the bed for both of us to sit comfortably -- and the view was great.

Apartment Felix was in a perfect location with a view of the market and harbor when leaning out the window. Both places provided free parking with the added benefit that Apartment Felix has a washer/dryer combo. We would go back to both in a shot.

Correction -- both places DIRECTED us to free parking, which is a huge difference from providing us with free parking. My apologies.
