I did get admin fee for tickets in Italy related to entering zones in center of cities.
Police asks rental cars who are the renters then chase you up.
I got the actual ticket 2 months after I had the admin fee.

The 500 : dispute via cc : if they didn't sign anything at return it is your word against theirs.

I read here good advice
1 get a receipt that you gave back the car in good condition
2 take pictures of the car
3 take pics of mileage and level of fuel at return

It helps in case of litigation.

And don't let small bothers taint your vacation.
You have 2 nice toddlers in good health and had a good time.

You have an exposure of 550 euros
That you may get back. No reason to get depressed.
Consider you fell on 'taxes' after the start on the Monopoly if life.

anniemarie - if you ever come back, which I doubt, the forums are full of stories of inappropriate charges for non existant damage from nearly all major car rental companies.

What makes this thread stand out is the number of once only posters, people taking the time to register just to complain about a single company. It seldom happens with any other company despite very similar occurances.

I rented a car in Sicily, scraped the rear door, got charged around €400 for the damages. It's in the Terms and Conditions - I took the precaution of keeping the documentation, along with many photographs.

If you broke the law in Italy (and it is easy to do), then any company will need to pass on your details (and can legitimately charge you a fee for doing so)- it may be mionths before you get the actual ticket.

Briefly - cheaters and non-proffesionals, staff - rude and arrogant!
I am so resigned and angry that I will tell everywhere DO NOT EVER NEVER NEVER USE LOCAUTO rent-a-car!
Me and my colleague came to Roma, Fiumicino airport by business and rented a car through Locauto. They put the reservation on my credit card 350 eur+250 eur for navigation. We have visited scientist forum in Naples. During the night, someone tried to steal the car, we have found door lock and main lock broken, cables were broken...we decided to inform Locauto in Roma what's happened and followed their instructions. Now I see it was mistake that we did not inform the police!
Contact person from Locauto, some Gabriele, told us to call road assistance (they picked up the car) and to rent another car in Naples airport....And we have done like this, but we have to pay another 350 eur deposit in cash! They told us this deposit will be refund to us when we return a car in Fiumicino airport.
Of course, we did not get a refund of 350 eur and 2 saucy and rude guys didn't want to explain us nothing - everything they said was "write to customer service"...
And then start never ending story with my credit card charging and e-mailing 3 invoices charging us for damage of car...
Hey, we have came to Italy by business and we haven't had a time to be a detective!
Now, I am really suspicious that maybe it is their scheme about insurance, who knows?!
