We are Americans currently living in London. The nicest area to stay in is the Mayfair or Marylebone area of London - very central. There are some very nice hotels and serviced flats for rent. However, if you are looking for an apartment - Cheval Group has some very nice apartments to rent, with some on very short term basis. Another central area, but not nearly as nice is Victoria Station area - Victoria Park Plaza (Hotel) has some nice apartments on their top floors. Convenient to stay in an apartment in a hotel.

Paci: You have received a LOT of good info here. very few knocks or slams, just 2 mild rebukes for claiming this is "my site" - which you probably didn't even mean but DID say . . . . .

You also say "I am hardly 'overwhelmed' or 'confused' about our trip. and seem upset folks think you are. Huh, wonder how they could have got that idea?

Well maybe because you said in your very first post "Please help a confused and overwhelmed, but excited traveler."

It might be better to consider what you did to cause all the confusion instead of lecturing folks that they are rude and obnoxious

Here are a couple of choices in Paris that would fit the bill for you. The first is the Holiday Inn Republique:

http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/PARDL

This is a classic property that outdoes itself in terms of being a "Holiday Inn". Look to the deluxe rooms for extra size, finish and amenities. It's worth getting the breakfast included because it's very good (and it's 22 Euros per person if you don't).

Second choice is a much different property, but a very nice boutique-style hotel, the Holiday Inn Paris Opera:

Tell Madame Levavasseur I sent you.

Some people may question why I would recommend what are obviously two "chain" properties. There are several reasons.

1. Location and value: both are relatively close to Rue Oberkampf, which is a perfect spot for 19 and 22 year olds. You'll like it, too. These are interesting, mixed ethnic neighborhoods with lots of good places to eat and hang out. You're also close to some great shopping in the "Grands Boulevards" area.

2. Franchise standards and E-Z, failsafe, online booking on the IC Hotels Group website.

Forget about the cookie-cutter image you may have of Holiday Inns in the U.S. These are both unique properties that won't insulate you from experiencing all that "being in Paris" has to offer. They will come in under your budget, but you could easily pay much more and receive less in return.

Hi sorry, Paci--I never said anyone can hijack a thread and you referred to yourself as confused and overwhelmed in your original post.
