Location for best views of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz

I would like to go by cable car to see the views of either or both lakes. Is there any particular place? I can see Brienz Rotham, Harder, Niederhorn, or maybe Schynige Platte. Not sure if views are possible from any of these. Any information is appreciated.

the panoramaweg at schynige platte/

you have to walk up through the flower garden to get/

there/

go straight up towards the ridge/

beautiful view/

you can then walk the 'loop' and come back to/

the train station and restaurant/

there is a self-serve cafe up there now with great views/

from the terrace/

I have to agree with Ingo 100%, we took some of the same pictures. We first saw the Mt. from the train on our way from ZRH to our Untours apartment in Kandersteg and knew a trip to the top was a must.

I'd add if you want and can afford two teips I'd add the Brienzer Rothorn, providing the train is steam driven. I know sometimes they diesel. Having got to Brienz by paddle steamer from Interlaken Ost and retuen by boat as well, my idea of a lovely day on holiday. In fact I must do it in a few weeks time

Thanks everyone!

Ingo, is this between Thun and Bern? I'm trying to figure my way by train from Wengen.

tipsygus, I will have a Berner Oberland Pass and Brienzer Rothorn is included with the "free" transportation. I went to Brienz last year by boat, but I didn't see the paddle steamer. That lake is beautiful!

scatcat,
see the SBB schedule from Wengen to Niesen-Kul.

Train leaves Wengen every hour 0833, 0933 etc. Change at Interlaken Ost, Change at Spiez, Arr. Mulenen/Niesen-Kulm (two hours), walk to funicular. Ride to top takes about a half hour.

also see www.niesen.com

Ronkala already answered your question, scatcat. It's TO: "Niesen-Kulm", though. Takes 2.27 h from Wengen to the top, take the 9.33 am train e.g.

In Spiez hop on the regional train to Brig. From the train stop Mülenen it is only a 2 minutes walk to the funicular.

The Niesen funicular is also free with the Berner Oberland Regional Pass.

ronkala and ingo

Thanks so much for all the info. I'm just hoping for good weather now. I have stayed in Wengen 4 times already, so I have done a lot of the usual sites. I will be in Wengen again September 4 for 5 nights-still not enough time.
