Locanda Leon Biano

Trying to find a pretty decent place in Venice for our trip in Venice, convenient to everything. Seen some pretty ridiculous prices for some hotels with canal views. Does this really matter? Yes, I want the ambience, although I am aware we probably wont be spending too much time in the room.

I was able to find a double room at the Locanda Leon Bianco but with a minor canal view for 130E. I am a little concerned about the view being a small narrow canal. Based on the postings on this forum, it is a recommended hotel and I am not having much luck finding something cheaper with any view at all.

Any thoughts?

Any

Check out posts for Leon Bianco - yours says Leon Biano.I stayed here last year and loved the area.I had room on Grand Canal which was huge but others looked good-sized as well.I obsessed with canal view or not and learned that it didn't really matter to me.For one, the windows in Venice buildings aren't so wide that it offers a huge expanse to sit and gaze (as I fantasized).Rather, unless you stick your head out and peer to the right and left, one really has a narrow view. The GC was interesting for morning traffic but the small canals were "cute as a button".Lastly, once I arrived in Venice and saw its' beauty, I couldn't wait to get into the streets each day and look again. The Leon Bianco is a fine hotel with all necessary amenities, in a neighborhood full of character, some cafes closeby open at night should you wander towards home at night and want to stop for a drink or dinner, considerate, helpful hosts and a good price.Had I spent more on a hotel,it would have been so wasted-the view is outside your hotel, intoxicating and free.I hope you'll know what I mean and agree once you get there. Enjoy

Joanne,
check out the Hotel Galleria, we stayed there for 6 nights over Easter this year and had a terrific view of the Grand Canal. They were not that expensive either. I have stayed in Venice twice before and yes, the view did make a big difference to our stay. It was wonderful to watch all the water traffic.
If you do a search on this board, you will see lots of recommendations for this hotel.
Kay

Woops, thanks Sue, it is Leon Bianco! We did book the room with the small canal view. I think your right, I am envisioning this huge window you could look out of but it's probably just me fantasizing. They were very nice people to deal with in making the reservation. I am hoping it's everything that Fodorites have raved about!
