local transportation connecting Chianciano (in Tuscany)
Does anyone know how to get from Chianciano to Siena by public transportation? What are the bus company's names and websites so that I may look up schedule?
Same question for buses from Chianciano to Assisi.
Thanks.

You can train from Chiusi which is a few miles from Chianciano(5:80€)as you would have more train choices especially if you are planning a day trip. The buses from Chianciano to Siena aren't frequent(only a couple a day - 8:30, 12:30 or 13:30, 16:00) and some require a change of bus enroute. There is no Sunday bus service. The last return train from Siena is at 20:19.
You must enter a date within 7 days for all trains/prices to show.

While the bus usually drops you in the center of Siena, the train does not as the station is at the edge of Siena. You can catch a bus across the station (look for a way to go down on your left after you cross). The buses pick up in an underground garage. You can buy a ticket for 1€ at the store in the train station or there is a ticket machine underground.
The bus might be better to Assisi since the trains require a change, but I'm not familiar with the Assisi buses.

No, there is just one train station usually called Chiusi-Chianciano or just Chiusi, but it is in Chiusi. The train line does not go to Chianciano, it runs N/S near the A1 between Rome/Florence. The station is in Chiusi Scalo.

The bus from the train station in Siena to the historic center of Siena only takes about 10 minutes and are very frequent.
Siena Mobilita is the bus consortium for the Siena province of Tuscany and you can search for area buses on their website. You would select extra-urban for the entire province. There's a PDF with all the buses which takes a minute to load because it's about 180 pages. You need to know what the legend keys are to read the schedules (symbols for workday/holidays/winter/summer etc.)

http://www.trainspa.it/train04/extraurbano.pdf
There is also an online search feature on Siena Mobilita that rolls over to busfox. This is in Italian so you must remember to enter dates in that format - day, month, year.

I find this color-coded map helpful for searching buses in Tuscany as it lists the bus numbers and then you can look at the Siena Mobilita pdf of extra-urban buses for the bus number. You may have to zoom in a bit.
