Ljubljana ,Riga or Tallin
Hi. 2 couples in our late 30's are planning a trip in September end/October 1st week. We are doing 3 nights in Amsterdam and deciding on whether to do Ljubljana , Riga or Tallin for the balance 3 nights. If we do Ljubljana we will do a daytrip to Lake bled. We are not too much into clubs/nightlife but like going to cafes, cocktail bars, pubs , good restaurants for dining, people watching and a bit of sightseeing. We like spending our afternoons in a cafe sipping on wine and watching the world go by. Green spaces/parks is also something we like spending time in. Based on the above preferences which city do you'll recommend. Thanks in advance.

Riga is ok for the odd cocktail and there is a great park in the centre of the city to wander in. It used to have a strong Russian/Mafia hangout scene but since Russia shut itself off that has reduced so really is a nice visit.
Ljubljana, the hangout scene is down by the river and on parallel roads, very pleasant, some obvious prostitution on the street but only up by the Bridge with dragons on it. Bled is lovely and Sept/Oct is a good time to go.
Tallin, never been, friends were less than impressed.

Riga is fantastic
I can vouch for Riga - stay in the 1000 yr old historic part of the city. The architecture, the river, the old hangars now giant food markets, the sculpture and art the WW2 museum, the KGB hq, not to mention the breathtaking 850 Art Nouveau buildings still intact, never bombed, the opera house, and the parks, the bridges, walk, walk, walk your tootsies off and cycle across the river to the gorgeous library, the Never Forget Soviet occupation history. You will not forget it.

I was in Tallin and Riga last April 2024. I liked Riga better than Tallin and I’m not into clubs/night life. I found it more lively as I like to people watch and it was compact. Tallin at the time seemed less crowded so not that much going on. I am going to Ljubljana this August so don’t know how the atmosphere is there.

3 nights (2 days) is VERY little for Amsterdam. SOOooooo much to see in that part of the world!
Wait for Ljubljana until you have time for more of Slovenia.
Wait for Riga and Tallinn (2 n's -- Tallinn, not Tallin) until you have time for both.

This will be our 8th trip to Amsterdam. It's our favourite city in Europe. We mostly always end the trip with Amsterdam.

That area is full of students, tourists, and locals walking to the market with their baby buggies and shopping trolleys. Not exactly a hotbed of red light activity.

We've been to Amsterdam (6 days with day trips), Tallinn (3 days, 1 to Helsinki), and Ljubljana (several overnights and weekends while we were living in Vienna). Personally I would stay in Amsterdan and take day trips to The Hague, Delft, Bruges, and so forth. Save Ljubljana for part of a Balkan peninsula tour.

Ljubljana is a fantastic stop for 3 days, perfect amount of time to enjoy the compact city yet full of wonderful areas to explore. Great park that you seek (Tivoli Park where you can wander for hours)…outstanding outdoor market where you can purchase fruits, veggies and homemade foods, a castle to explore and lots of wandering outside of the famous bridge area….and no, no women of the night plying their trades. Just families and friendly folks.

We were in Ljubljana and Lake Bled in late Sept, 2023 and loved it. I felt it was an undiscovered gem of Europe. It is often compared with Prague due to its beautiful architectural appearance. It is a pedestrian town along a beautiful canal. There is a a great wine bar at Ljublana Castle. There downstairs has an outside patio that has a great view of the city, it is a University city with lots of young people, Also, a great farmers market. I haven’t been to the other two but my vote is for Ljublana. We wished we had more time there.

Ljubljana and Lake Bled were the favorites of our Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro trip in 2023.
Slovenia in all outshone the other extremely crowded places of our trip.
Ljubljana had such lovely shops and walkable streets. A great memory was sitting outside with an Aperol Spritz and watching the people stroll by. Lake Bled boat experience and the Lake Bled Hotel were listed as #1 by all of us. Julian Alps were spectacular.
I’ll be watching for your trip report.
