Liverpool street in City area of London

we want to stay at the Andaz on Liverpool Street. Is this a central location in London? How far from theater district?

Not really.

"<i>How far from theater district? </i>

There is no one 'theatre district', but Liverpool Street station is on the Central line which crosses all the other tube lines so you can get most places w/o too much hassle.

If you were a first timer in London, which area would you stay in?

When I was a first timer in London, I stayed in Bloomsbury. I've stayed there 4 times since.

Most commercial theatres are concentrated in and around Strand/Charing Cross Road/Shaftesbury Avenue, with the National just over the river at Waterloo. Bloomsbury is within walking distance or a short bus ride of most of them. If you're really set on the Andaz, then it's just that bit further on the tube.

Yes, but London has several "central locations" depending on what you intend to do.
