Lisbon to Madrid in 3 days
I am looking for some travel advice and have read alot of the postings. We are going to have a car and will be in Estoril (to play golf) and then working our way North hopefully along the coast and then heading east maybe to Marvao and then through Cacares Spain and then back to Madrid. I am trying to gauge whether this is feasible or if we will be spending the whole three days in the car. We are flexible with our time but need to stick to the three days. Some of the places we would like to see are:
Sintra
Cabo da Roca
Nazare
Any suggestions would be soo appreciated.

Beth, You are on the right track. From Estoril, I would see Cabo de Roca, Sintra, and end in Obidos that day. Next day drive to Marvao, or all the way to Caceres stopping in Marvao. The third nite I would stop in Salamanca. one of my favorite Spain destinations.

Hi bk
Which golf course are you playing?
Anyway, whatever it is, it's very likely that you are within a short range of Sintra (10 or 15 minutes) and eventualy in the outskirts of Sintra hill. Is your golf practice is a full day commitment, or do you have time in between to do short visits to Sintra? If you could see Sintra in advance, I wouldn't leave it for departure day.
Bear in mind that distance from Sintra to Marvao is about 200 km and from there to Madrid is about 400 km, meaning that probably you want to do the Portuguese portion during the first day allowing more time to the Spanish portion.
Marvao is a very good option to stay, even if you arrive by afternoon there's enough time to get the feeling of the place. What to do in between? I have 2 suggestions, the first is Arraiolos and the second Tomar (I don't think you can do both, but it's your decision (check the map). Tomar was one headquarters of Templar knights, if you are intersted in old architecture, it's a must. Arraiolos is the capital city of hand made tapistry and very interesting unpretentious relaxed southern city. In any one of them you can easily spent a couple of hours. Both suggestions are roughly in the midlle of the 1st day jorney and on the right time to have lunch, and both served by good roads

Lobo mau: Thanks for your words of wisdom. Our sites will be mostly in Portugal. We are just ending up in Madrid for a flight back to the states. I have spent alot of time in Madrid and the surrounding areas, so we are not going to be there long. That was why we thought about carceras...maybe to stay the night before the plane. We were going to try and play golf on the first afternoon in Estoril (I am at a hotel that has golf and my conference will be over on Sunday am.) It of course depends on the weather. Yes..we are planning on a stop in Sintra, and I would like to work in your other suggestions. Our plan is to leave Estoril Monday am and my flight out of Madrid is not until noon on Thursday. So we would like to make this a mostly Protugal itinerary with lots of time out of the car, if possible. Thanks for your advice...keep them coming.
