Lisbon to Barcelona
Last night my wife surprised me with tickets to Lisbon in September 06. We'll only be in Europe for 10 days but we'd like to make the most of it.
I'm thinking about taking the entire ten days and travel in segments from Lisbon to Barcelona and fly out of Barcelona back to the States.
Budget - $ 2500. We prefer Bed and Breakfast type arrangements over hotel/motel. Local food and friendly people are very high priorities.
We'll probably travel by train and plan to spend a couple of days at each stop.
I think we'll have enough 'nite life' in Lisbon and Barcellona so villages and small towns would be of interest.
Has anyone done this and have specific ideas and/or suggestions ?
Thanks in advance !
David

As I thought about my previous question, it occured to me that I had ruled out car rental without giving it much thought. Can anyone suggest a reliable, car rental agency that will allow pickup in Lisbon and drop off in Barcelona ?
Thanks

10-days (especialy if it includes day of arrival & day of return) is just barely enough time for a minimal visit.
If your tix are to/from Lisbon and not 'Open Jaw,' how can you return from Barcelona??
The Lisbon area needs a minmimu 3-days for a beneficial visit (Barcelona also).
To the best of my knowledge, there is no direct rail service between Lisbon and Barcelona. You would have to go thru Madrid or San Sebastian. Alternative: Train (or Bus) Porto to Vigo (Galicia, Spain) - Hotel Tren to Barcelona
Don't even think of dropping off a car in Barcelona that you rent in Lisbon. Dropoff fees would cost half your trip Budget and Many Portuguese Car Rental companies are 'Portugal only!" It's an Insurance thing.

Yes I have done this. My specific suggestion is to use the trains. I took an overnight from Lisbon to Madrid and another overnight to Barcelona. It is a beautiful way to travel between the major cities in Europe.
