Lisbon & Madrid Hotels

Greetings,
I am looking for a couple high-end hotel recommendations in Lisbon and Madrid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We really liked the Brittania in Lisbon.

We stayed at the Four Seasons Ritz in Lisbon which was lovely but I think the Lapia Palace (spelling?) is even nicer.

In October we will be at The Westin Palace in Madrid which gets good reviews.

Take a look at Leading Hotels of the World (lhw.com) and Small Luxury Hotels of the World (slh.com). These are associations of some of the best luxury hotels in the world (they do not include chains like Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, etc). I have always been happy with the hotels I have found through this site. The Ritz in Madrid and the Lapa Palace in Lisbon, mentioned above, is on the lhw.com list.

We just returned from Lisbon & stayed at Lapa Palace. It's very nice & in a beautiful neighborhood, surrounded by embassies. In Madrid, the Santo Mauro is very nice.

The Palace Hotel in Madrid is in fact very nice but when we were there the beautiful lobby was unuseable due to the thick acrid smoke from cigarettes and cigars. Check to see if the smokers are still there in force.
