Lisbon Airport - a caution

1. Has anyone had any recent experiences with LIS check-in staff (since the date of the previous post), and more specifically, dealing with Continental before flying LIS-EWR? I'd just like an update if possible before I go to Lisbon for Christmas.....
2. Based on experiences traveling from Italy, my luggage has been checked through from my Italian departure airport to my final US destination, even if I had to change in another European city beforehand or clear customs in the US. My port-of-entry into the US has always been ATL to this point, and like previous posters have said, you have to pick up your bags in US Customs in ATL and then re-check them onto their final destinations. That said, the luggage tag that was put on in Italy has always said my final destination. For example:
Italy -- CDG -- ATL -- CLT, with the CLT being the most prominent airport.

Hi, tdyls,
I posted in this thread last spring, and went to Lisbon several weeks later, on the Continental flight from Newark. I'm a big fan of that flight, because the plane is smaller and has less of the cattle car feeling to it, in my opinion. I had a bit of bad luck because on the way over my bag arrived several days late. I flew into Newark on American, and I assume that the airline change made it more likely that my bag would be delayed, even though there was plenty of time between flights.
My experience coming back to the US was just as I had experienced previously, with airline personnel at the check-in counters. Nothing unusual about the return trip at all. In my experience, you're just as likely to get a rude or indifferent clerk in the Lisbon airport as in any other airport I've ever been to, just the luck of the draw I guess.
Maybe someone who's flown more recently can comment -- my most recent experience was late last spring.
Boa viagem.

tdyls - The protocol for international airport - US gateway - CLT is the same for your bags whether its DL via ATL or CO via EWR.
The bags will be tagged to CLT, but you'll pick them up at EWR to clear US customs. At the customs exit, you drop them back to CO.
