Lille - London how to get there

Hi

I am looking at the options to get from Lille (france) to London around 9th May. Although the Eurostar would seem to be by far the easiest option it seems fairly expensive. I was looking at budget airines from Paris to London and these seem fairly cheap. In fact the total cost of getting from lille - paris - london is half the price of the eurostar (but fairly inconvenient).

Does anyone know of any cheap airlines from Lille - London or somewhere near Lille to London?

Thanks

I am a strong advocate for the use of cheap intra-Europe flights, but this hardly seems worth the hassle. Brussels might be better than Paris, from Lille - - www.virgin-express.com - - but the whole concept seems like trying to force a square peg into a round hole, I suspect.

Curious - - what itinerary takes you into Lille to start with? Sometimes intra-Europe transport questions benefit from an examination of the whole itinerary.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
If you are 65 days out from Lille, check the round trip fares and book and toss the return ticket!
Good luck on finding the rental car spaces if you are driving in! It took us 2 motorcycle cops leading the waay with sirens blasting!

The airport is even harder to find!

Thanks so far.

My basic itinenary is as follows:
Paris (only 2 nights)
Tour of the somme battlefields (being picked up in Amiens and then dropped off in Ypres) - 2 days and 2 nights
Ypres - 4 days
Lille - 1-2 days
Driving - Epernay, Rouen, Normandy etc - this part is still open - any suggestions please!?!? - return car to Lille then on to London

The original plan was the return the car outside of Paris then leave from there but apparently the hire prices were a lot cheaper dropping it at the same spot (I did not organise the car so am not sure). So the reason we end up back at Lille is the car.

The train to paris is not that much of a hassle (have done that before only approx 1-11/2 hours) but it does seem a hassle.

Unfortunately only about 40 days out - we leave on the 18th April and should be going to London 9 May'ish.

Any suggestions of places to stay would be great (v. budget)

Thanks for help so far

If you are going to Normandy anyway, try to have lunch at one of the restaurants on the seafront at Honfleurs. This is the beautiful little port that the French explorer, Champagne, departed from back in the 1600s. The sea front houses are covered in slate from roof top to ground which says a lot about the weather. In May the weather may be good or really lousy. If the weather is good, don't go on a weekend as you'll have to share with half the population of Paris and the grid lock traffic thay bring with them.

The Eurolines coach stops in Lille on the way from Brussels to London so may be that would be more convenient for you and it is quite reasonably priced. you would need to book in advance.
