When I was living in Northern Ireland, I watched a travel program that highlighted a lighthouse in Scotland that doubled as a B&B, but I can't remember what it was called, or even where exactly in Scotland it's located. I seem to remember that you could bike to it from one of the ferries from N.I., but that just doesn't seem right to me.<BR><BR>Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Ann, I think you're looking for the Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel outside of Stranraer. I don't know exactly how far it is from the ferrys to Belfast and Larne NI. Have a grand time!<BR>

Thanks, Dana! That's the one I'm talking about, and I was able to find the website. It's about 15 minutes from Stranraer.<BR><BR>I'm having a hard time getting a straight answer from car rental agencies about taking the car across the water. When I called Avis, they told me I couldn't, but then when I e-mailed them, they told me I could, but that the car wouldn't be covered only while the car was on the boat (guess the car's the least of my worries if the ferry goes down). Then I called National, and they said I could take it across, but would have to pay an extra 18 GBP a day, plus a 50 GBP insurance fee. Renting on either side isn't the best option, as it's very pricey.<BR><BR>Can anyone shed any light on this?

Ann - when you factor in the cost of the ferry for the car it likely will be less expensive to rent two cars.<BR><BR>People travel on ferries for very little, but cars are very expensive.<BR><BR>Have you looked into flying from Ireland to Scotland - very good fares are available on-line.

Janis, it's actually still more expensive to rent two cars, because the trip to Scotland lands in the middle of my two weeks in Ireland, so I can't get a weekly rate on either side, and they really get you on the daily rate.<BR><BR>It's actually only about 200 pounds for a car and the two of us return, although I think we're going to drive down to Liverpool to see a match, and take the overnight boat back to Belfast, which is 225 pounds for a single. But considering we would have paid about 100 pounds for a hotel in Liverpool, it isn't much more expensive.
