Lido Cabaret - Paris (Expensive!!) Worth it????

I am going to Paris for 3 days and wold like to go see a Cabaret show (heard the Lido was the best).
The guide books say it cost over $100 for the show (10pm or midnight) or arounf $140 for 8pm dinner and the show. Is it worth it? How's the food?

I too would be interested in knowing if it's worth the price for a Cabaret show. Planning to go to France next April or May or June, depending on which month is best weather wise.

Beth: I've seen the show at the Lido, which is right on Champs Elysees' near the Arc de Triomphe and the show at the Moulin Rouge, also. I think that it's OK to sample these items, but at that cost, you have to be really into that sort of thing, I think. I would suggest in your three days that you see the Chateau Versailles, Notre Dame, the Louvre', maybe Montmartre (Sacred Heart Church) and Painter's Square. In the evening, take in the tower. It is so cool to see illuminated at night. Go to the top, it's worth it. The Metro will get you to all of these spots easily. Have a good trip!

Beth, I have been and would not bother unless, as Lee said, that its your thing. The romantic images we have of it from movies and such is just that. Now, its tourbuses and tourists....better to spend an evening boating the Seine, sitting on the patio of a bistro, or just walking the banks of the Seine or the Champs Elysee. I have also gone to, and recommend, a candlelit concert in Ste Chapelle, whose stainglass windows are a must see on a sunny day....

Hi:

Back in the 80's we were good friends with one of the owners of the Lido and attended every time we were in Paris -- at least 2x a year. It is fun, but not worth the price the public gets charged. The place is a factory which processes thousands of tourists every night. The food is fair at best and the show is cheesy to occasionally dazzling. If you decide to go, attend the 10 pm show. The midnight show can be depressingly empty. The 8pm show sounds early to me. In fact, there used to be only two shows. 8 pm was dinner and dancing followed by the show. Midnight was champagne and show only. I guess they are cramming ever more people into that place. I have heard that there are some caberets in Paris that are still worthwhile. You should check with the one of the concierges at an upscale hotel in Paris. They will know which ones are class-acts.

One other piece of unsolicited advice -- blow the money on a great meal instead.

Be prepared for two things. Whether you go to Lido or Moulin Rouge you will see the entire population of Kyoto, Nagasaki, Osaka and Tokyo. You will also see their tour buses, every type imaginable short of the yellow bus that takes your kids to school.

Sit in a sidewalk cafe instead, far removed of course from the reeking diesel of idling tour buses.

I agree with Michael wholeheartedly! The Lido is a Clip joint. Blow your money on a good meal. The food at the Lido is average AT BEST, and the drinks are way overpriced. The show is OK, but not as good as the one that can be seen at the Radio City Music Hall in NY

Thanks for all the great advice! I think I'll skip the Lido and splurge on a fabulous restaurant!
