Lesvos - Anaxos

I've just seen a great offer for the resort of Anaxos in early October. If you've been - how would you descibe this resort?

Would I need to hire a car, or could I use public transport to get around the island?
What were the highlights of the island for you?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Steve

Hi Steve; nice to see you here.

We had a week in Lesvos last spring and if you email me I'll send you the trip report.

Lesvos doesn't really ahve anything you could rationally call a resort and Ananxos is one of the few places we didn't make it to, tho' we were a few miles away but going in the opposite direction.

I really liked the island, but I love birds and it was the spring migration and just wonderful. It's quiet by comparsion with most other islands and apart from its natural beauty it's not got a lot going on.

It has a good bus system but a car would surely help

Anaxos is very small and a bit isolated. A few rooms and restaurant type place.

Contrary to other posts there ARE resorts. Molivos/Mythimna is the most touristy one followed by others at Petra,Sigri,Skala Eressou,Skala Kalloni. All of these can be reached by the bus system (which I did use) but you will probably have to change at Kalloni or Mytillini,as they are infrequent. You can easily find 'rooms for rent' at any of these places at that time of the year,no problem.

The highlights - Large green and mountainous and not overly commercialised.
The low lights - difficult these days to incorporate in a island hopping trip (anyone remember the 'cyclades' ferry?).

Not to have an unnecessary disagreement, Old One, but none of these are really what I would call a resort. From my point of view that is a good thing.

We stayed in Skalla Kalloni with lots of lovely birds

My definition of a 'resort' on a greek island: A room to rent & place to eat!

Message: Thankyou both for your replies.

Sheila - molto grazie for your trip report, which I've really enjoyed. It's sounds a lovely little island. If it's relatively untouristed then it's definitely my kind of place! I'm off to the travel agents right now
