I know that there is a half-price ticket booth at Leicester square. My questions are: <BR>#1: Do they just sell tickets for that day or can you buy ahead <BR>#2: How long is the line, and when do they open? <BR> <BR>Thanks to all on this forum - I leave in 2 weeks, and appreciate everyones help.

The SWET (society of West End Theatres)ticket booth only sells for that day, which is why they're half price. The queues are usually pretty moderate (15 mins max.) There are other ticket agencies in Leicester Sq but they are ruthlessly commercial operations. <BR> <BR>Its worth lookinmg in Time out for matinee offers etc, although not for the sold out shows.

Leicester Square works well if you don't have your heart set on a certain show. Line is much quicker than the dreaded tkts line in NYC

The official half price ticket booth (it is the one that is a separate building actually on the edge of the "park" itself) generally only sells the top price tickets -- meaning they are the best seats -- at half price. Don't expect Mama Mia or Phantom, but they will have a good selection of shows. I have seen the line look incredibly long, snaking back half a block, but the most it has ever taken is about 25 minutes. Cash only -- no credit cards! Actual half price plus a 2 pound per ticket service charge. Some of the other "half-price" booths in the neighborhood may sell you really cheap seats at a price that is above what the seats actually cost, but they say they are half-price because they are half the price of the really good seats. Duh! Why wouldn't they be?

Lisa, <BR>The half price ticket booth is in Leicester Square; the booths and shops that border the square offer no bargains. The booth is open Monday to Saturday, from noon for matinees and from 2:30 to 6:30 for evening performances. You may also have luck finding reduced (not half price) same day tickets by checking at the box offices of the theatres showing plays you're interested in.

In October while in London, my husband and I used the Leicester Square ticket booth. We walked up to no line at about 5:45, bought tickets for 19L each to see "Blood Brothers", which was fantastic, and then went for a bite to eat before the play began. Very easy.

One more question...when you decide on a particular show, do you get to choose the seats you want, or do you have to take what is next on the list?

They normally start to hand you the next best seats, but if you question them, they will explain and let you choose others. This would seldom make a difference, but perhaps they will start with the 5th or 6th row, and if you ask and you want the front row (normally not preferred) they may have those and you can have them. They will explain where the seats are if you ask before they sell them to you.
