I've never been there either but think I will put it on my "must do" list for my trip in 3 wks. I know it's beautiful, as Aine said, but have read mixed reviews on the food. Cigalechanta, I'm trusting your refined palate on this one!

Thanks! cigalechanta, I saw the mixed reviews also on the food so I am happy that both you and ira feel that the food is nice. It was my idea for a special get together for 4 with my sister and her husband so I was nervous.
grandmere - it took us ages (3 days) to actually get through to the restaurant for a resv. so you might want to make yours asap. The phone was constantly busy (or off the hook).

To make a reservation, just go to the web site, and there are instructions:
http://www.le-train-bleu.com/
We have had good lunches there a couple of times. When arriving at the Gare de Lyon, follow the signs to Grand Lignes.
One way to look for web sites is in the yellow pages:

This restaurant is special enough to make a trip for, even if you are not catching a train. I had heard about the food being dodgy, and was pleasantly shocked at the quality of what I was served.
Instead of common brand sodas they had real french limonade for the kids, the butter was the real deal and the chocolate ice cream was the best I have ever had in my life, it was so good that I called the next day to find their supplier... not avail. retail
I was so impressed with the food that I did some research and it would seem that Michel Rostang is now involved in the kitchen, which may explain why older reviews are not so hot on the place.
There is a cheaper menu listed on the back page after the beverages for those hoping to save some sous. And if you ask for more info on the murals, they have a flyer that includes the movies that have been filmed here.
When reserving ask for a seat by the windows on the train side of the restaurant if you want to watch travelers as they come and go.

I did eat there last March and enjoyed it very much: good food and lovely Belle Epoque surroundings. Certainly worth a trip from the 6th, which was where we were staying. (worth a trip from anywhere in Paris!) Think it would be a very long walk from rue Jacob. We took a bus there-very simple--and then got a cab back to our hotel at the end of the evening.
I will be in Paris on my b-day this May and think I might choose LTB as the place to dine that night.

I took my brother to LTB in 02, when I escorted him for his first trip to Paris. He is wheelchair bound, which is sometimes a problem in older buildings, but the staff was very helpful and gracious, giving both of us very good service. We also loved our meal, although I do remember that it was warm in the restaurant,(we were there in June 02, when temps reached 95 F) we would certainly go back.
