Le Meridien Munich
I am leaving on Friday for Munich and the Le Meridien. A few questions, please.
I am a runner. Anyone out there that has stayed in that area that can tell me if I can safely run alone in the early morning, 6:30 or so? And suggest a route?
I have read that there is a particular exit to take from the Hauptbahnhof that will take you to an escalator that leads directly to the front door of the hotel. Can anyone be more specific?
And, lastly, I am travelling with my mom, who is 75. Is the Lufthansa bus easier with luggage than the S Bahn?

I can tell you that we had no problem on the S-Bahn with our (fairly) light luggage, and I think the train is a much, much faster way to get around than bus or taxi.

If you have a lot of luggage the S Bahn could be a challenge. The bus would be more convenient. You might consider taking public transport to the English Garden for your morning jog. I'm not sure I would want to jog around the train station due to the traffic congestion.

I agree with Bird. The bus would be a better option. And if you don't arrive during rush hour, it will make it to the station within 40 min. from the airport, which might be a challenge for the train.
If you arrive by bus, just walk straight through the station. Directly opposite the next exit you'll spot the Le Méridien.
While the area around the hotel is not the most pretty one, nor the most upscale one, it would still be safe for a morning run. However, it is crowded and likely close to congestion. Thus, I' also rather take public transport to the Englischer Garten.

Where is the Lufthansa bus located in terms of baggage claim? Is it well marked? I often opt for a bus when I travel with my mom as I have her luggage and mine. We travel light, but one bag each plus my backpack still can be a pain.
I think the English Garden sounds good for a run a couple of mornings, although I may check the easy option depending on weather and traffic.
Any suggestions for which Biergarten is the least touristy? I want mom to see it but the Hofbrauhaus is a bit much for my taste.

Hi kfusto - My mom, who is 79, and I stayed at Le Meridien, arriving on the ICE train at the hauptbahnhof. This was last May.
I remember just walking out of the station towards Bayerstrasse, and Le Meridien was just across the street. I don't remember an escaltor directly to the hotel, but that'd be great.
We took the S-bahn to the airport on the way home and had no problem. It took about 40 minutes and it was direct, no changes. We had one rolling suitcase and carry on each, and that was easily managed.

For a non-touristy beergarden, you might try Hofbraeukeller in Haidhausen or the Unions-Braeu there (small beergarden).
However, Aumeister in the Englischer Garten is well visited and tourists do not necessarily stand out there.
Personally I also love Wawi (abrev. for Waldwirtschaft) in Grosshesselohe. Great Sunday morning Jazz.

For a nice Bavarian restaurant and Biergarden we like the Augustiner in the fussganger zone a couple of blocks townrd your hotel from Marienplatz. I'm not a jogger but I would think along the Isar river most anywhere would be good. Englisher garten is a good place also. Neither are close to your hotel. You can get there by U-/S- Bahn buss trolly and the ususal cabs. Ask at your hotel. They might have some other suggestions.

On previous visits we have found the Concierge as well as the front desk staff at LeMeridien to be extremely helpful with this sort of question.
As to the hotel in relation to the railway station: when you come off the platform (and assuming you are arriving on one of the main platforms) look straight ahead and you should see a food court type area. Facing that, turn to your right and take that exit. Look across the street and you will see the hotel on the opposite corner..cross the street and you are at the front entrance of the hotel..no steps involved..all flat surfaces.
