Layover in Dusseldorf

We have an 8-hr layover in Dusseldorf (Chicag to Paris), on a Sunday, unfortunately. Can anyone provide some insight on what to see or do in Dusseldorf for that brief period?
I know that on Sundays, there may not be a lot open in Dusseldorf, however any info would be helpful.
Thanks!
Ross

The only things that are closed on Sundays in Germany, are stores. Everything else will be open. Restaurants, Museums, and tourist attractions will all be open.

"and tourist attractions will all be open" - which doesn't get you very far in Duesseldorf unfortunately...

The old town area, along the river, was pleasant for a stroll for a few hours, which is all you've got anyway. Train from airport to city center was quick and easy, then you could walk to the river, or take a bus and spend all your time in the old town.

The Altstadt on Sunday is going to be pretty bland. The action starts on Saturday afternoon and runs to late night. The party group is hanging over on Sunday.

Traditionally Düsseldorfers stroll on Königsallee on Sunday afternoon. It is a high fashion street and they dress up.

I suggest a quick trip to Cologne to see the cathedral, Der Kölner Dom. It is sort of magnificent. Catch a train at the airport with a connection in Düsseldorf. It will take less than 45 minutes I believe. The Dom is right outside the station. There are some Stubes in front of the Dom with great facades.
