layover in Copenhagen both ways; also Scandinavian airlines

Hello

looking into options to fly into Amsterdam. One includes a layover in Copenhagen. On the way over, it's 9 hours. On the way back, it's nearly 24 hours.

This would be for two weeks over late August/early September. How would the weather be, for starters? on the first leg would there be enough nearby to go look-see (I realize the return trip leaves a lot more time). I don't know where the airfield is in relation to the town.

I would likely prefer to go direct to Amsterdam (and may end up doing so), however, a 24hr layover is a bit intriguing so what the heck.

any recent opinions on Scandinavian Airlines would be great too, many thanks.

The airport for Copenhagen is at Kastrup, south of Copenhagen. A train runs from the airport to the Central Station every 15 (?) minutes and takes only about 15 minutes. The Central Station is just three or four blocks from the City Hall Square which I consider the center of the City. The walking street starts at City Hall Square. Tivoli Gardens is just across the street from the RR station as is the Information office.
I've always been satisfied with SAS.

We overnighted at the hotel IN the Kastrup airport before flying home the next morning, and I just loved the hotel--highly recommend it. Think it's a Hyatt or a Hilton.

The train from the airport (which, like Cass's hotel is in the airport) goes directly into downtown Copenhagen -- short trip, frequent trains (airport is northeast of the city, but not far at all). Very convenient although, of course, you have to do the in- and out- of security thing, so think about the timing of that.

SAS is great, consistently voted one of Europe's best business travel airlines. CPH is a great airport too, very convenient.

To LJ Parker:
I concur with you that SAS is great for BUSINESS travel. Last week they had engine trouble at Paris CDG for a flight to CPH (Copenhagen). It will be a 5 1/2 hour delay. The business class passengers were re-routed right away on different airlines while us ECONOMY class passengers were left to sit on our seats on the plane to wait for further instructions. After more than 1 hour, they let us out and we have to line out for customer service to ask for rebooking. All of us didn't get re-booked and have to spend an extra night out of copenhagen (at least they paid for the hotel). All in all from the time they announced that there was an engine problem to the time we finally arrive at our hotel after rebooking for flights next day at the Copenhagen airport (SAS Paris can't do anything), it was a 10-hour nightmare!!

Just to clarify: Copenhagen was not most of the passengers final destination but just a stopover to other parts of Europe and/or to the US. So all ECONOMY class passengers waited until the plane was fixed and we flew to CPH where we have to rebook our flights to wherever we were going.
