layering clothes in Italy?

I just don't get it! I keep checking here for packing/clothing ideas and I am always seeing "layer". But what do you do with the layer when you get warm? Do you carry it around? I am very confused about the whole layering thing and still do NOT know what to pack!!!!! We are going Rome, Tuscany, Venice Oct 16-28th.

No. You throw it away, and buy another layer when it gets cold.

You tie it around your waist using the sleeves.

You put it in your daypack.

What do you do at home when you are out and about wearing a jacket and don't need it?

What had you planned to pack and wear on your trip before you read here on Fodor's?

I typically layer because the weather can turn easily. Its hard to pack based on the weather. Sometimes its chilly in the mornings but warms up considerably as the day goes by, only to get chilly again in the evenings. If I get hot I simply carry my jacket, sweater, blazer, etc. with me.

Good luck!
