late night meal in Venice - where to go?
Right.
our trip is all booked and paid for, arriving on good Friday 20.10 at marco polo, and then catching a water-taxi to the rialto to meet our host who wil take us to our apartment [near Campo bartholomeo, apparently]
our ETA at the apartment is 21.30. any ideas where we can get a meal that time of night in the centre of Venice? or should we eat on the plane and starve til morning?
regards, ann

Based on direct experience I recommend Al Covo in the Castello which is open until 10. Here's the Zagat review:

Hello ann, Venice restaurants seem to close much earlier than many restaurants in Italy. With your arrival time at your apartment (what we in the US would call 9:30pm) you could be cutting it close. I wish I could think of somewhere, but I always have gone to a restaurant in Venice around 8:00pm. Ann, is there the possibility you could email the agency you are renting the apartment from and ask them where you could get a decent dinner? It would seem like they would have some information. If they can't, the driver of your water taxi might be able to give you suggestions but that would be a bit iffy of course.

Hello again ann, here is the info from the Airport, regarding the Cafe Marco Polo Cafe which per the information will be open when you arrive. You could buy some sandwiches to take to the apartment. Not the most ideal I know, but just in case nothing else works out for you.

Hi folks,
thanks for the help. you confirmed my worst fears - our 1st meal may have to wait til the saturday.
the remedy may be to have a decent lunch on the way, though there are few obvious options on the M5. we have to be at the airport by about 3.30pm, which means leaving home at about 12noon.
perhaps a large brunch at home before we leave, then top up at the airport restaurant plus sarnies made at home for later on.
never mind - we're there for a week so we'll have plenty of time to explore the delights of venezian cuisine. any up to the minute tips?
thanks for the link to al covo, RDJ - it looks good but probably not on the first night - I know Venice a bit but not well enough to find it in a hurry.
regards, ann
