Flights are booked. Now ironing out details. We are departing at noon from Catania airport on a Wednesday in May. Would rather not spend the night in Catania. Would spending our last night in Ortigia or Castelmola be too far away? We are even considering spending the last night in Malta and then flying in to Catania earlier that morning. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks all.

We spent our last night in Taormina and hired a driver to drive us back to Catania to the airport.

Ortigia or Castelmola seems fine. Both are only 1 hr drive from Catánia.

I would choose Ortigia since it was one of my favorite places. Taormina was not one of my favorites..

What about Catania vs. Castelmola?

Take the bus Siracusa dp 8.30 and you will be fine
