LaSpezia or Genoa

We will be traveling from Venice to the Cinque Terre by train. Which is the best city to train to - LaSpezia or Genoa? We haven't yet decided in which village to stay (probably Vernazza, Manarola or Corniglia).

Hi Jill

As a practical matter, La Spezia is closer. How will you get to your destination?

Just did the reserve in April. You will go from Venice to Bologna where you will change trains. The train should go THROUGH La Spezia to which ever city in CT you are staying.

If you go to Genoa, you've gone too far.

I am confused. From venice I believe that Genoa will be you best connection to the local train, but check at trenitalia.com.

I am confused about Holly's post too. As I said, we JUST DID this in April and changed trains in Bologna, then through La Spezia to Monterosso. That's where we stayed.
