Lambrusco Vineyard Tour

Gonna base in Bologna for a week. Looking for a Lambrusco vineyard tour. Has anyone done one independently? All my research end up with organized bus tours that bounce from spot to spot.

We will have a rental car and plan to make multiple trips for Modena for the car factory tours.

Thanks in advance.

These people near Castelvetro in Modena -- which is less than 15 minutes from the Ferrari factory in Maranello -- run a restaurant and an agriturismo at their winery, and you might be able to arrange with them for a tour, plus have a nice homey lunch. Castelvetro in Modena is a sweet town worth seeing, and also a great place to buy balsamic vinegar and preserved cherries from the dispensary in the central piazza (which is a medieval human chess board).

Also, if you like Lambrusco di Sorbara in particular, you might try contacting Garuti, which is about 30 minutes from Modena (north toward Mantova)

Just so you know, when you contact individual wineries to ask for a private tour and a tasting, the normal expectation is that you are interested in buying wine from them. Sometimes the enthusiasm of a small family producers is such they are happy to share with you everything about their products without that expectation, but that is normally why people request tours and tasting -- to buy.

Thanks for the info and "expectation".

Already have a tour reservation with Villa San Donnino so I'm set in the balsamic vinegar front. Still trying to round up a Lambrusco into.
