Lake Como with Car

My wife and I like the Hotel Belvedere. It sits at the top of Bellagio, so it's a 5-10 minute walk to most of the shops and restaurants, but it has free car parking and is quiet. We've stayed there twice over the years and the staff has always been friendly and the rooms nice. They do have a restaurant that's nice, but there are so many good places to eat in Bellagio and around the lake, that we usually only eat there at most once per trip (excluding breakfasts which were wonderful). They have a very nice pool and jacuzzi that overlooks the lake towards Varenna. I find it's worth a few euro's extra to get one of the rooms in the back with its own grassy terrace with lounge chairs to sit and just look over the lake on a hot afternoon after doing the tourist thing all day.

I don't think the drive is going to be particularly difficult. We'll be staying in Lenno this fall and plan to drive all the way around the lake...but then we also want to see how much we can see by taking ferries across to other towns.

I have done it both ways, with a car and without.
Without a car is by far the way to go.
The ferry from Como to Bellagio is not only easy, but a beautiful ride. YOu can get everywhere you want to go on the ferries. You can pick up your car at the rental office , at the Como train station, after your time in Bellagio,
WE LOVE the Hotel Florence. http://www.hotelflorencebellagio.it/homeeng.htm
