I'm not sure what Big_Red meant by noting the "last few boats are ... usually car ferries." You can ride these ferries as a walk-on pedestrian.

The ferry schedules:

A bit of a digression, but was the movie A Month at the Lake filmed in this region?

Yes, it was filmed at Villa Balbianello. Vanessa Redgrave was even permitted to stay overnight, something never permitted, but allowed for one night during a bad storm or somesuch per Rex, who is an absolute fanatic about Villa Balbianello.

You've done a great trip report, Julie, and I'm sorry I missed your earlier mention of the movie. I've not been to the lake area, and it sounds like a wonderful place to visit.

Thanks, Julie! I now have it on my list...

I remember reading someplace that only a few restaurant people have a special license to fish for the missoltini..

I have to get more information about this fish and report back!

For Ekscrunchy,
There is no boat that would let you get back from Como after dinner.

With the possible exception of Saturday nights, the last boat to the western shore is an 11:25 boat Bellagio to Cadenabbia (south of Menaggio, take a taxi). There seems to be a Saturday night boat that goes around to the three towns, Menaggio included at about 11:30pm.

There is a Bellagio water taxi (Barendelli) probably expensive.

I would think you could taxi to any nearby town on the western shore of the lake.

Thanks, BigRed:

We will have a car so perhaps can take advantage of the many ferries that run to and from Cadennabia. I am assuming that there is some sort of parking near the ferry landings....(??)

I just want to keep all my options open for meals!
