Lahr - chrysanthemums show

I just received today some pictures of chrysanthemums show in Lahr. There are so beautiful as we are thinking now to visit Lahr this autumn.
I would like to receive opinions about show from Fodorites who saw it in the past.

This year it will be from 22 Oct., I am afraid that it will not be a so good weather then, but..nobody can be sure.

What do you recommend to visit around? To stay in Lahr or in other place and just go for one day to Lahr? I see that Stuttgard, Baden-Baden, Konstanz are some 100- 125 Km from there , so we can visit them.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

I may be visiting Lahr myself soon, in which case I'll try to remember to post something for you.

Lahr is one of the "Konus" towns, which means you can ride the Black Forest trains as you do outings for free once you have a Konus Karte from your hosts.

Lahr is very close to Offenburg, the starting point for one of the most scenic train rides in Europe, the Schwarzwaldbahn, which can take you to lots of interesting villages high in the BF:

Thank you, Russ. If you can tell me your impression about Lahr, it will be great!
I learned about Konus card, which give you free transportation by train and bus in Black forest. Do you think that is this an easy way to visit there and a car is not needed?

The Konus Card lets you use trains and buses within the red-bordered area on this page:

I've used the Konus Card in the past and nothing could be easier. Get the card from your host, and get on the train or the bus anytime you want. You can use it on the day of your departure as well. You cannot use it on the high-speed trains (IC, ICE, EC, etc.) but all the regional trains can be used. There are no high speed trains on most of the BF routes anyway. I'm planning to stay near Achern and will use the pass for 3 days to do outings to different places.

The only reason to have a car there, IMO, is if you plan to stay somewhere far from town. Booking within walking distance of the station (or a bus stop) is not generally a problem in the smaller towns where the Konus card is valid, but check the location of your inn before you book!

If you know what towns you want to visit, you can check to see if there is rail service; this map shows most of the BF rail lines and stations: focus on the corner to the south of Karlsruhe and to the west of Eutingen, basically.
