Sorry I didn't do this sooner in the thread, but I actually have the Laduree recipe book which I bought last April. Here are the ingredients they have listed for the Macaron recipe: sugar, powdered almonds, egg whites, and flavoring of choice. Just check to be sure when you buy them that those indeed are the ingredients of the ones they sell. Because of your allergy you don't want to make assumptions and take an unnecessary risk.

BUT, your French is MUCH better than mine! For the flavor-of-the-month/seasonal macaroon I'd be quite willing to assist/edit!! : ) Urs, what's Muscovado, d'ya know? Oh, and I knew you didn't do that translation but just remembered your favorite type of chocolat.<BR><BR>Thanks a BIG BUNCH, SloPugs, I'm sure Barb will appreciate knowing, for her husband's sake. Do you mind my asking how much the recipe was for? And if you bought it at Laduree?<BR><BR>: )

I like the macaroons at Gerard Mulot on Rue de Seine even better than Laduree. Check out the coffee, chocolate and pistachio. Have a great trip!

Thanks to everyone, especially sloplugs for the info. It sounds like these may be a good treat for hubby. On our last trip to France, he was not diagnosed with Celiac disease(gluten intolerance), so he loved trying out pastries. After almost a year on a wheat-free diet, he has become adept at eating out safely, but that usually means sticking with fruit or ice cream for dessert. He is excited to know he may be able to enjoy some French macaroons. Thanks also to Beatchick for the reminder about Berthillion's ice cream; we missed it last time, so this time will be a must!

Beatchick: Sorry, I can't remember how much the book was, but probably between $30-40. It is a very nice book (in French, but I think I saw on their web site it is available in English now), hardcover with full page luscious pictures of all the recipes. My hubby bought it for me last April at the original Laduree near the Madeleine in Paris. I haven't looked in a while, but maybe it is available online or from their catalog..... All this talk is making me want to go to Paris! I have a &quot;Frequence Plus&quot; account, so I often take Air France, and I try to fly through Paris whenever possible.

Speaking of Parisian desserts, does anyone know if Angelina's hot chocolate mix is available here in the U.S. or on-line? I have just finished off my last bag. Thanks.

Beatchick,<BR>No idea, what Muscovado could be. It's written the same way in the French version, but no further detail is given. I guess, I will have to ask, when in Paris next time.<BR><BR>And tpl,<BR>While Mulot is my favourite for pastries such as pain au chocolat, tarte au citron, etc.and also its sandwiches, I find his marcaroons less fluffy, too compact, for my personal taste.

well, igourmet.com sells &quot;dark muscovado sugar&quot; which comes from Africa and has a high molasses content. So I would imagine this is sort of like a brown sugar macaron.

Well, just back from another Paris trip and just HAD to go to Laduree (Rue Bonaparte branch).

I couldn't decide on just one flavour, so I decided to go for the much smaller mini-macaroons that cost 1.25 Euro/piece.

Here are the four flavours I had and loved them all.

Chocolate (regular, not black)
Lemon (very refreshing)
Violet flavoured blackcurrant (delicious)
Lime and Basil (surprisingly good)

I'll hit the next four flavours next time, until I will be through all of them.

Ursula, you're so funny!! We now have our very own macaroon tastetester in you.

I tried the pistache from there &amp; a few other flavors from Boulangerie Paul (chocolate, coffee, vanilla) but pistachio was the clear definite winner for me! Mmmmmmmm.

This is a new one for me--macarrons at Laduree. Is this savory delight available at other places in France? I look forward to discovering this delicacy and delighting in the search. CHOCOLATE would HAVE to be my favorite! It will take a lot of walking to work off the calories as a result of sampling several different flavors. C'est dommage!

slopugs, is it possible for you to post the recipe?

This thread makes me want to cry and return to Paris! I also enjoy rose, almond, and lemon. However, I have not been able to try every flavor yet...boo hoo

MMm. Macarons. Very good at Laduree, but I think Gerard Mulot's chocolate edges them out. Also, Fauchon has a branch here in NYC where they fly in their macaroons from Paris, and they used to carry an Earl Grey Tea flavour that I loved.
